A huge thank you to everyone who took part in our sponsored collect in May. We raised £1,500 from this event. Legal & General have also donated £200 to support the sponsored collect and Grounds Improvement Project. We also have gift aid to claim of £270.
This will be added to the Summer Fair proceeds of around £3,000 and Bulbman contribution from the Autumn of £240.
Although no decisions have been made yet about how to spend the money raised we are currently looking into options for providing shade in the playground. If there are any carpenters or handy men out there willing to lend a hand please drop us an email. In particular we are looking at fitting decking onto the grassy area adjacent to the playground.
About the project
The PTA is working with the school and governors on a project to review the use of the school grounds following the completion of the building works
We are looking at taking inspiration from organisations such as Learning Through Landscapes and Eco Schools. The first stage of the project is underway, this is to record what we have in the grounds and how it is used.
Soon we will move to the second stage which will be creating 'wish lists' and will involve input from children, staff, parents and governors and there will be opportunity for the activities to be built into the children’s school work.
The third stage is developing a a draft plan which will include identifying ’zones’ for attention that will form parts of the project, these are likely to be areas such as:-
- A shaded seating area
- Replacing the pond and creating an environmental area
- Creating a quiet area in the playground
- Play equipment & artworks
- Cycle storage
- Garden & growing areas
Once the draft plan has been reviewed and priorities assigned the plans will be finalised which is when financing the work will become the challenge. We will be looking to apply for grants and corporate sponsorship amongst other things.
The school grounds action team are:-
| Pauline Dulake | PTA Chair |
| Carolyn Tear | PTA committee member |
| Jean Parkinson | Classroom assistant |
| Pam Barnsley | Parent |
| Chris Webb | Head Teacher |
| Phil Wheeler | Caretaker/Governor |
